THREE-DAY WORKSHOP ON FINANCIAL LITERACY AT GOVERNMENT J. BUANA COLLEGE, LUNGLEI (25–27 MARCH 2026)
A three-day workshop on Financial Literacy was held from 25–27 March 2026 at Govt. J. Buana College, Lunglei, organised by the Research and Intellectual Property Rights Cell and Department of Commerce in association with IQAC, GJBC and SEBI-SMART.
The resource person was Mr Samuela Lalthanliana, Assistant Professor, Govt. Hrangbana College. The first two days were conducted online via Zoom and chaired by Dr Lalnunpuia Sailo, focusing on the “Six Pillars of Financial Literacy” and basic concepts of managing personal finance.
The final day was held offline at the college Multipurpose Hall and was chaired by Dr Lalzarzoa. A welcome address was delivered by Mrs Lalthangmawii Chhangte, Principal of the college. The sessions on the final day covered the topics “Pillars of Investment and Financial Markets (Dos and Don’ts)” and “Securities Market: Understanding from an Investor’s Perspective”, along with practical insights into risks and decision-making. The programme concluded with a memento presentation by Dr Vanlalhlani Ralte, Head of the Department of Education.
The workshop was convened by Lalsangpuii, with Dr Lalzarzoa and Dr Lalnunpuia Sailo as Organising Secretaries, along with members R. Lalchampuii, V. Rohlupuia and Baby Vanlalpeki.
A Three-Day Workshop on Financial Literacy is being organised by the Research & Intellectual Property Rights Cell and the Department of Commerce, Government J. Buana College, and in association with SEBI-SMART, from 25 to 27 March 2026.
An online session will be held on 25 March 2026 at 8:30 PM via Zoom (scan the QR code above to join). This will be followed by offline sessions on 26 & 27 March 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Multipurpose Hall, Government J. Buana College.
Malsawmtluanga Khiangte, VI Semester Student, Department of Commerce, was adjudged the ‘Best Debater (Mover)’ at the State-Level Debate Competition held on 18 March 2026 at the Higher and Technical Institute, Mizoram. The event was organised by the HATIM Debate and Literary Clubs in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority, Lunglei. The award carried a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and a certificate.
Samuel Malsawmtluanga, II Semester Student, Department of English, also secured a Consolation Prize at the same event.
The topic for the College Level debate was: “Mizorama zu khapna dan hman mek hi Mizo ṭhalaite zingah zu hman sual tur laka inven nan a ṭha tawk a ni.”
The competition was conducted as part of HATIM’s annual ‘Hill Fest.’ Dr. Judy Lalparmawii Khiangte, Assistant Professor, Department of English, served as a judge for the Higher Secondary School Level. She, along with Mr. Rothangliana, Assistant Professor, Department of History, later presented the awards to the school level participants.
The event was also attended by several faculty members and students of Government J. Buana College.
Government J. Buana College mourns the passing of Prof. Lalzuiliana, former principal of the college, on 8 January 2026. Prof. Lalzuiliana began his career in teaching when he joined the college as a Lecturer in 1985. During 2011-2017, he served as the State Liaison Officer cum Deputy Secretary of the NSS Cell under the Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Mizoram. He then continued teaching at Government J. Thankima College till 2022. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994 and to Professor in 2022. He received his PhD in 2007. He took over charge as Principal, Government J. Buana College from November 2022 till his retirement on superannuation pension in March 2023. Admissions are now open for various courses under IGNOU Study Centre, Government J. Buana College. Interested candidates can submit their application forms online or offline at the Study Centre Office during office hours. Refer to the flyer for courses offered, fees, and contact details.
Back to College! The college will reopen for the Even Semester 2026 on Friday, 16th January 2026. All students are instructed to reach the college at 9:30 AM. An Orientation Programme will be held for II, IV & VI Semester Students at the Multipurpose Hall, which will be followed by a “hnatlang.” Attendance will be taken. No leave of absence will be granted except for genuine medical circumstances.
