Government J. Buana College celebrated Chapchar Kut on 12 March 2026 at the College Grounds. The festival traditionally marks the Mizo spring celebration following the completion of jungle clearing for cultivation.
On the occasion, members of the college community came dressed in colourful Mizo traditional attire. The programme began with cultural performances by the Leitlang Dingdi Cultural Club, who presented a series of traditional Mizo dances. The celebration then continued with a lively Chai dance in which all the students danced in unison.
As the college tradition, the Kut Nula and Kut Tlangval were also selected from among the students. Lalremfeli, 6th Semester, Department of English, and R. Lalruattluanga, 4th Semester, Department of Mizo, were chosen for the titles. They were each awarded a cash prize of ₹1,000 along with a certificate.
The celebration concluded on a joyful note, with the college community coming together to honour and promote Mizo culture and traditions through music, dance, and collective participation.
Akashvani Lunglei in collaboration with Government J. Buana College presents: Memorial & Motivational Lecture cum Concert for Youths.
Dr. Krista Roluahpuia, Assistant Professor, IIT, Gandhinagar will be delivering the theme lecture: “Thalaite tana hmathlir: Chhim Thalaite tho ang u.”
The programme will also feature various famous artistes and bands such as The Cassettes, Lalenkawli Pautu, Jessica Lalhmangaihtluangi, Isabel Lalnunpuii.
The event will be held at the Multipurpose Hall, Government J. Buana College, on 11 March 2026 at 2:00 PM.
The District Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 was held at the Multipurpose Hall, Government J. Buana College on 10 March 2026.
Ms. Lalhmingthangi Fanai, Asst. Prof., Government J. Buana College, was the compere, and Pu Lalzuithanga, Chairman, Lunglei Municipal Council, was the Chief Guest of the event.
A total of 25 participants from Government J. Buana College, Lunglei Government College, Higher and Technical Institute, Mizoram (HATIM), Mizoram Polytechnic Lunglei, and YMA Ramthar Branch took part in the Speech Competition.
Pi Lalthangmawii Chhangte, Asso. Prof. & Principal, Government J. Buana College gave the welcome address. Pi Mercy Sellate, Project Director (Rtd), MY Bharat then gave the introductory speech followed by a speech from the Chief Guest.
Pu Michael Lalmuanawma, Asst. Prof., Government J. Buana College, then laid out the rules of the competition. A total of 25 participants delivered their speeches on the topic “50 years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.”
The top five participants were:

3. Vanlalrengpuii, HATIM
4. C. Lalremruati, HATIM
5. Deborah Lallawmsangi Varte, HATIM
The above youths will be representing Lunglei District at the upcoming state level competition at Aizawl.
The prizes were distributed by the Pi Lalthangmawii, and Pi Mercy Sellate.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Pu CMS Dawngliana, Vice President, YMA Sub-Hqrs., Lunglei.
Government J. Buana College mourns the passing of Prof. Lalzuiliana, former principal of the college, on 8 January 2026. Prof. Lalzuiliana began his career in teaching when he joined the college as a Lecturer in 1985. During 2011-2017, he served as the State Liaison Officer cum Deputy Secretary of the NSS Cell under the Sports and Youth Services Department, Government of Mizoram. He then continued teaching at Government J. Thankima College till 2022. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1994 and to Professor in 2022. He received his PhD in 2007. He took over charge as Principal, Government J. Buana College from November 2022 till his retirement on superannuation pension in March 2023. Admissions are now open for various courses under IGNOU Study Centre, Government J. Buana College. Interested candidates can submit their application forms online or offline at the Study Centre Office during office hours. Refer to the flyer for courses offered, fees, and contact details.
Back to College! The college will reopen for the Even Semester 2026 on Friday, 16th January 2026. All students are instructed to reach the college at 9:30 AM. An Orientation Programme will be held for II, IV & VI Semester Students at the Multipurpose Hall, which will be followed by a “hnatlang.” Attendance will be taken. No leave of absence will be granted except for genuine medical circumstances.
